O disco desta semana é de um dos maiores mestres que o piano blues já teve: Otis Spann.

O disco desta semana é de um dos maiores mestres que o piano blues já teve: Otis Spann.

Otis Spann nasceu em Jackson, Mississippi em 1930 e em 1952 já integrava a banda de ninguem menos que Muddy Waters, com quem fez inúmeras gravações. Otis Spann também gravou e acompanhou nomes como Sonny Boy Williamson II, Howlin Wolf, Bo Didley, Jimmy Rogers e Little Walter. Participou também de diversas turnês na Europa, que incluiram os famosos "American Folk Blues Festival". Otis Spann fazia apresentações que misturavam todo o sentimentos do blues com performances teatrais, coisas que só Otis sabia fazer. Veja o vídeo Collin James present The Blues Masters e confirme o que estou falando.

Mas não foi apenas como sideman que Otis se estabeleceu. Otis Spann gravou excelentes discos solo e este é um deles. Acompanha de uma excelente banda, Otis fez de Chicago Blues uma verdadeira aula.

Espero que todos gostem desse que para mim, é um dos melhores trabalhos do mestre Otis Spann. Obrigado!

Do The Boogie é um disco recheado de clássicos gravados por BB King durante a década de 50, lançado pela gravadora ACE em 1989. Rhythm Blues de primeira categoria, slows cortantes, metais afiadíssimos e BB King (pelo menos na minha opinião) na sua melhor fase, tocando sua guitarra de uma maneira muito diferente daquela que o consagrou como o Rei do Blues.Esqueça BB King pop dos anos 80, duetos oportunistas e coisas do gênero, Do The Boogie é o mestre BB na sua melhor fase.
